Topresume.com Review: Not All That Glitters Is Gold!

Note: I got my resume through payment, not in exchange for a review. So, I'm sharing this to provide insight into the resume creation service before others try Topresume.com.

Having spent considerable time analyzing writing services, my focus this time was on Topresume.com, a well-known resume-writing service boasting about its unmatched quality compared to its competitors. Given my former student and ghostwriter background, I deeply appreciate the value of a professionally crafted CV, resume, and LinkedIn profile. So, I needed to assess how well Topresume's bold claims align with the actual quality of their services. You should know the truth about their resume writing services!

Check the best resume writing services in 2024

  1. SpeedyPaper - Rating - 4.89/5 - Best service overall 🏆

  2. WritePaperForMe - Rating - 4.82/5 - Fast Delivery ⏰

  3. PaperCoach - Rating - 4.93/5 - Best for resume/CV writing ✍️

Established in 2003 in New York and operated by Talent Worldwide Inc., Top Resume positions itself as a leader in the industry. This Topresume review is intended to provide an unfiltered perspective on whether the service merits the trust of its clients, especially considering its heavy investment in marketing. We often see services marketed aggressively, but does this necessarily equate to quality? That's the question I sought to answer in this review, especially to address the question, "Is Topresume legit?"

Topresume.com Overview

  • Minimal deadline - instant

  • Revisions - unlimited

  • the website is user-friendly and easy to navigate.

Cons

  • The quality of resume writing in basic packages is subpar;

  • limited direct communication with writers in less expensive packages;

  • customer service responses feel scripted and lack personalization;

  • unclear terms in their guarantees and refund policies.

Customer Support

Need the reviews of Top Resume? I will tell you about support agents! Engaging with the customer support of Top Resume was an integral part of my review process. The company offers several channels for contact, including email, a hotline, and online chat. When I contacted via email, the average response time was around one day. The online chat provided answers after a two-hour wait, which is relatively slow considering the industry standard. However, reaching someone through the hotline was challenging as it was constantly busy.

A critical observation was that the support agents seemed to rely heavily on pre-prepared scripts, limiting their ability to provide personalized or non-standard responses. This approach often felt more like aggressive marketing rather than genuine customer support. Concerns and queries from clients who might be doubtful or hesitant didn't receive the thoughtful attention they deserved.

An interesting point of contention arose when I inquired about the identity of the supposed 1,500 resume writers, especially given that Topresume's LinkedIn account lists only 37 individuals. This question was met with silence; the support agents skirted around, providing a clear answer. Transparency and straightforward communication with clients is essential for a service that markets itself vigorously, such as Topresume.com. Yet, this was lacking in my experience with their customer support team.

There were instances where the agents came across as somewhat rude and impatient. This demeanor was especially noticeable when dealing with more complex or specific inquiries. Rather than offering detailed assistance or understanding, the responses often felt brusque and lacked the courteous professionalism expected in customer service interactions. This aspect further detracted from the overall user experience, reinforcing the impression of a service more focused on scripted responses and sales rather than helping clients.

Topresume.com: Prices

Top Resume offers a range of pricing options for its resume writing service, catering to various needs and budgets. The most basic package, "Professional Growth," is $149. This package provides an expertly written and keyword-optimized resume to set clients apart.

For those seeking more comprehensive services, the "Career Evolution" package, priced at $219, includes everything needed for job applications, such as a resume and cover letter. It is their popular option to balance additional services with cost.

The next tier, "Career Confidence," priced at $349, offers a more extensive package that includes a resume, cover letter, and a LinkedIn profile, all created by an executive writer. This package is designed for those aiming for a significant leap in their career trajectory.

Topresume service has the "Elite Executive Priority Package," costing $699 for the highest level. This premium package caters to top-level professionals and executives, offering comprehensive services to enhance their job application process. The steep price point reflects this package's extensive and specialized support.

Topresume customer service, as I experienced it, provides information about these packages and assists customers in choosing the right one for their needs. However, as previously noted, the support team's approach often felt more scripted and sales-oriented than genuinely advisory. The pricing structure of Topresume.com's services seems disproportionately high, especially considering the quality issues and limited features in their basic packages.

Classic writing services offer similar or even superior resume writing at more affordable prices, providing better value for money. Additionally, the market is replete with skilled individual professionals specializing in resume writing. These individuals often deliver more personalized and effective services at competitive rates. In my opinion, Topresume.com's offerings, particularly at their current price points, struggle to stand out or justify their cost.

Quality of Resume

For this Top Resume review, I chose their Starter package. I requested a resume tailored for a Senior Java Developer, using a friend's professional details as a test case. The experience, unfortunately, was disappointing. Key technologies and skills that my friend is proficient in were omitted, which is a significant oversight for such a role. The resume writer's handling of technology descriptions was peculiar, with at least four instances of awkward phrasing. More troubling was the misinterpretation of my friend's job-seeking objectives.

Moreover, there were glaring typos, including the misspelling of "Java" as "Jala." Such errors are not just unprofessional; they could lead to an overlooked resume by HR professionals. Given the promise that the resume would be optimized for Applicant Tracking Systems, the lack of discernible keywords or relevant technologies was another letdown. The absence of this feature raises questions about the resume's effectiveness in actual job applications.

Reflecting on the $149 spent, I can't help but feel it could have been better utilized, perhaps on leisure activities like video games or dining out, rather than on a subpar resume that failed to meet the basic requirements of a professional Senior Java Developer's profile. This experience adds a critical perspective to the pool of Top Resume reviews, highlighting significant shortcomings in Topresume.com's service.

The quality of the resume provided by Topresume.com was notably subpar, leading me to question the writer's attention to detail and care in their work. Such a level of carelessness is perplexing and suggests possible underlying issues, such as the writers being underpaid or lacking competence in their field. It's hard to fathom any other reasons for the disappointing quality of the service received. This experience casts a shadow on the company's ability to deliver professional and meticulous resume writing services, which are crucial for clients' career advancement.

Guarantees

When picking expensive resume writing services, guarantees are critical for clients. However, during my Topresume.com review, I discovered that their 60-day interview guarantee is not uniformly applied across all packages. Notably, the resume-only package, which one would assume to be the core of their services, comes with no guarantees. It is an ironic stance for a company specializing in resume writing.

To access the interview guarantee, customers must purchase one of the more expensive packages, including additional services like a cover letter and a LinkedIn profile makeover. The terms of this guarantee are not detailed, particularly regarding refunds. It's stated that subscriptions can be canceled, but there's no explicit assurance of a refund for unsatisfactory service.

Furthermore, providing multiple drafts and revisions, a standard expectation in the resume writing service world is reserved only for those who opt for premium packages. This limitation raises questions in the context of reviews: Is Topresume worth it? Considering these aspects, potential customers might feel hesitant, especially when basic services lack essential guarantees and clarity regarding the terms of more comprehensive packages. As you can see, you need all Topresume reviews to know the truth!

The guarantees provided by Topresume.com are framed in a manner that seems intentionally vague, likely a result of careful writing. This ambiguity in their guarantees effectively minimizes the possibility for clients to raise objections or claims. While perhaps legally prudent, such a strategy comes across as disingenuous to customers seeking clear and straightforward service assurances. This approach, prioritizing legal safety over customer clarity, is a significant negative aspect. It's a strategy that could eventually adversely affect the company’s reputation, as clients value transparency and fairness in service agreements.

Types of Services

Topresume.com offers a variety of services, each catering to different professional needs. In my Topresume review, I evaluated these services to understand their effectiveness.

  1. Starter - Professional Growth Package: This basic package includes a professionally written, keyword-optimized resume designed to pass through Applicant Tracking Systems and grab employers' attention.

  2. Premium - Career Evolution Package: A step up, this popular package adds a cover letter to the resume, acknowledging that employers are more likely to consider a resume with a cover letter. It also comes with a 60-day interview guarantee, adding more value to the service.

  3. Ultimate - Career Confidence Package: This package provides a comprehensive service, including a resume, cover letter, and a Top Resume LinkedIn profile makeover by an executive writer. It also includes a 60-day interview guarantee. Including a LinkedIn profile is vital, considering most employers use this platform.

  4. Elite Executive Priority Package: Designed for high-level career upgrades, this premium package includes a professional resume, cover letter, expedited 2-day delivery, unlimited revisions, LinkedIn profile makeover, and two interview prep sessions. It's aimed at individuals targeting top-tier positions.

As you can see, it is a crucial part of my Topresume review! In evaluating these services, it's clear that the more expensive packages offer significantly more value, particularly with the interview guarantees and comprehensive LinkedIn profile overhauls. However, the effectiveness of these services varies, especially considering the quality issues observed in the lower-tier packages.

For instance, the lack of detailed customization and potential inaccuracies in the resume content can undermine the effectiveness of even the most comprehensive package. This discrepancy highlights a need for consistent quality across all service levels in resume writing services. Maybe such Topresume writing services are too pricey! The ordering process is quite simple, and you are unlikely to experience any difficulties.

Ordering Process

The ordering process for their resume writing services at Topresume.com is straightforward and involves a few key steps, per my review of my Topresume writing services. Here is how it works:

  1. The process begins with the client answering a few simple questions, taking approximately 5 minutes. This step provides the essential information to create the most effective resume possible.

  2. Following the initial information gathering, Topresume matches the client with a writer best suited to their industry and experience level. This personalized matching aims to ensure that the resume is tailored to the specific needs and background of the client.

  3. Clients can review the initial draft after the writer has worked on it. They can provide notes or ask questions, and the writer will make necessary revisions based on this feedback.

  4. Once the revisions are complete, the final draft of the resume is made available for download, marking the end of the process and preparing the client for their job search.

This process was a part of my Top Resume Writing Services review. Potential customers must understand each stage and what it entails, especially when considering the effectiveness and personalization of the service provided. Although the ordering process at Topresume.com appears simple and seamless, there are notable concerns. Deadlines can be unexpectedly postponed, which is frustrating for clients working on tight timelines. Additionally, technical issues like an inactive resume upload button can hinder the process.

Furthermore, the opportunity for direct communication with the writer to make edits is restricted to the more expensive packages. This limitation significantly affects the customization and effectiveness of the service for clients choosing basic packages. Such drawbacks do not align with the expectations of professionalism and efficiency one would anticipate from an experienced resume-writing team.

Topresume.com Reviews: What Other Customers Say

It's always insightful to see what others have to say about Topresume.com. This is exactly what I did this time. With mixed feelings about the site, I decided to delve into customer feedback, starting with Sitejabber. On this site, I discovered that around 70% of the reviews for Topresume.com were positive. However, these reviews were strikingly similar in their brevity and lack of detail. Common phrases included "I'm happy with everything," "Thank you guys," and "I will recommend this resume service to everyone."

While reassuring, this feedback pattern lacked the depth that typically helps in understanding the strengths of a service. In contrast, about 20% of the reviews on Sitejabber were negative, and these were markedly more detailed. Customers expressed frustrations over issues like double-discounting subscription amounts, unrequested upgrades to more expensive subscription plans, and difficulties accessing the site. A notable number of reviews mentioned unexplained account blockages, adding concern regarding the website's operational transparency.

My search for customer opinions led me to TrustPilot, which housed over 12,000 reviews of Topresume.com. Here, the positive reviews showed a pattern that raised some eyebrows. About a hundred of the first positive comments contained the same name and followed a similar structure and conclusion. This repetition suggested a lack of authenticity as if they were partially rewritten but not with much care. Conversely, the negative reviews stood out for their uniqueness and detailed descriptions of personal experiences.

Interestingly, these negative comments often highlighted similar issues despite the company's claim of employing more than 1,500 writers, which should, in theory, result in a diverse range of service experiences. Beyond these formal review platforms, I also scoured various forums and Reddit threads for more insights. The consensus in these spaces was less clear-cut, with opinions varying widely. However, a common thread of dissatisfaction was evident, particularly regarding Topresume.com's payment system and the subscription model.

But, it is not the end of my Topresume.com review. Several users expressed confusion and frustration over these aspects, suggesting the company needs to clarify and perhaps simplify its payment and subscription processes. So, while most Topresume.com reviews on platforms like Sitejabber and Trustpilot were positive, the lack of detail in these reviews compared to the more descriptive negative feedback painted a complex picture. Coupled with the concerns raised on forums and Reddit, while many users are satisfied with the service, there are significant areas where Topresume.com could improve, especially in terms of transparency and customer service.

Verdict

In this Topresume review, my experience with the brand was underwhelming and marred by various negative aspects. The quality of the resume, especially in the basic package, was disappointing, with key details missing and typos present. The customer service experience felt scripted and unresponsive to specific queries. Additionally, the lack of transparency in their guarantees and the limited direct communication with writers further contributed to a negative impression.

So, how good is Topresume? Given these experiences, I am left with a sense of disappointment regarding. For those seeking professional resume services, I recommend exploring other academic companies like Writepaperfor.me or Papercoach.net for resume writing or editing needs. Are the drawbacks encountered with Topresume scam claims true? Yes. I suggest a need for caution and consideration of alternative services.

In my usual approach, I advise making small test orders to gauge a service's quality. However, in the case of Topresume.com, the high pricing for even the most basic resume-crafting package makes this approach impractical. The substantial financial commitment required for a 'test' order with Topresume.com is not justifiable, especially given the concerns about the quality and value of their services. This factor significantly diminishes the practicality and appeal of using their services, particularly for those who are cautious or on a limited budget.

I am absolutely shocked at the poor quality of Top resume's writing, service support and technical process !! I have spent the entire time correcting the muddled up content , waited for a week for a response only to receive a regurgitated copy of the info I had given without any reference or inclusion of the phone call discussion I had paid for aas an additional service.

I just received my resume and cover letter from Top Resume and wish that I had read your review beforehand. They both list skills that I do not have and completely left out skills that I do have. I sent a job posting and they just ignored it. Both contain a bunch of fluff and seem like they have just been copied from a general resume for the position. Zero personalization. I am going to do a chargeback on my card as I could have copied someone else's resume on my own.

Hi Donna Smith now Im wondering who you are. You recommended 3 different paper writers. I tried all 3 of them & they all have the same 'chat' person, 'Melanie'. Are you getting kickbacks to promote paper writers instead of TopResume?

Than you Donna Smith , I found their communication very assertive & repetitive. I too was just about to sign up because I thought LinkedIn was promoting them. I thought Id check the scam review site first which is where I found your advice. I'm now going to go with one of your recommendations. Thanks again..
