Elden Ring can be an intimidatingly complex environment when it comes to leveling up. Runes serve both as currency and experience points; their use will vary depending on your playstyle and needs.
Many of the game's major bosses drop Great Runes that offer powerful yet limited buffs; if you die before retrieving them, however, they are gone forever and cannot be recovered later.
Great Runes
Elden Ring offers six Great Runes that provide powerful buffs when equipped and activated. These runes can be acquired from main bosses after they have been defeated, often dropping alongside Remembrances that provide rewards upon death. Unfortunately, activating them is somewhat tricky to figure out and provides no guidance from the game in this regard.
A Great elden ring runes is an item dropped by demigod bosses that can be equipped to add passive bonuses to one or more attributes in an active player's abilities. Godrick's Great Rune for example increases all attributes while active; others can be found by defeating Miquella of Haligtree or Ranni the Witch.
Many Great Runes require players to visit a Divine Tower and consume a Rune Arc in order to power them up - this can be frustrating considering many Great Runes are locked until certain parts of the main storyline have been unlocked.
Rune Arcs
Many of Elden Ring's major bosses drop Great Runes that provide powerful yet temporary buffs. To unlock them, players must first crack open its Rune Arc before activating it at one of its associated Divine Towers - after this has been accomplished, however, its effect should remain active until death occurs and another Rune Arc must be consumed to bring it back into play.
Although each Great elden ring runes offers considerable advantages, their acquisition can be more complex. Alongside dropping from bosses, players may also purchase them at shops in Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, Liurnia of the Lakes, Hermit Merchant's Shack and Roundtable Hold. Furthermore, White-Faced Varre in Volcano Manor and Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold offer Rune Arcs at a high price; thus it would be wiser to only utilize their services when necessary.
Festering Bloody Fingers
The finger's nail is covered with streaks of fresh blood that shimmer like jewels. Utilising this multiplayer item, players can invade other worlds and fight their way towards the Host of Fingers - tiny warriors guarding your world - before invading three times to gain entry. Once this feat has been accomplished, they will receive their very own Rune Arc!
These items are quite scarce, yet can provide a significant edge in PvP - particularly for those yet to achieve victory over Great Runes or Rune Arcs - which can be extremely valuable to players if found. Take your time finding these runes as their worth can only grow with time!
To acquire Festering Bloody Fingers, players must visit the Rose Church in Liurna of the Lakes after defeating Godrick the Grafted and speak to an NPC named Varre. He'll encourage them to invade other players' worlds at least three times before returning to him to be anointed as Knights of Mohg and given Finger Severers.
Twin Maiden Husks
As with other FromSoftware titles, NG Plus in Elden Ring allows players to carry over some items from their previous run and progress from that. The advantage here is that players don't need to start from scratch; flasks of Wondrous Physick and Crystal Tears as well as Memory Stones are carried forward as spell slots; in addition, Perfume Bottles, Cracked Pots and Ritual Pots remain with players.
The Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold are merchants with little known history beyond their presence in Tarnished safe haven. One of their products suggests they were once incantation assassins whose bodies may now serve as their husks.
The Twin Maiden Husks offer an assortment of goods in their shop, but players can expand it by offering Bell Bearings from merchants found throughout the Lands Between. Each time one of these merchants offers up their Bell Bearing, their inventory increases with new items being added by the Twin Maiden Husks.
