About

Hi,

I’m Andy and I’m hugely excited to be leading the capable team behind The Dog Ranch, Tauranga.

As owner and director it’s my pleasure to give you a little bit of background about me. Firstly, I love animals, especially dogs, I’ve had my own dogs all my life and can totally relate to them being “man’s best friend”. As a young boy, I’ve always had a couple of side-kicks with me , partners in crime from a young age! A boy and a dog, is a never-fail recipe for mischief! So I’ve got a heap of experience and I’ve also worked with animals in a rescue capacity. I’m the kid that brought home the school’s rabbit during holidays or rescued the duck with a broken wing or the dog that had 3 legs!! So having animals with me, particularly dogs, has always been a big part of my life and a huge passion of mine. I’m big on health and fitness too, especially kayaking, MMA, touch rugby, snowboarding, tramping, bush walks and generally just being at one with nature. I’m also a qualified personal trainer and a few of you might remember me from various gyms around the city where I had the pleasure of training you before I left to live overseas. (Or more like punished you but hey you look good for it now!!)

I left NZ and over the past decade or so have lived largely in Australia. With a background in corporate management and some post graduate studies under my belt, my career stood me in good stead for advancement up the corporate ladder. It was exhilarating and demanding, rewarding and challenging. But it was also relentless, pressurised and mentally exhaustive. I was on the career treadmill, seemingly working harder and longer with little work-life balance and not enough time to do the things I always loved before my life wasn’t all work. Deadlines, heavy demands, tight schedules.  Then Covid arrived. I made the decision to return home to NZ with a new vision – instead of growing other people’s businesses, I decided it was time to grow my own!! But it had to involve the things I love .. and that came back to dogs, exercise, fitness, mental freedom and nature!

It has long been a passion and dream of mine to own and run a dog sanctuary, a dog park with wide open spaces, where our loved pets could run free, no leads to harness endless energy, no fears or dangers, no public, strangers or aggressive dogs, just freedom to smell the fresh air of life beyond a city gate, to be at one with nature and play, chase, do zoomies and hang out with friends, having adventures, every day hanging out with our best friends! I imagined it would be like a Disneyland for dogs! So that’s what I’ve created – on our own lifestyle block, 10 acres of pure pleasure for dogs, just 20 minutes from town.

They say if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. Now every days a dogs day and I have the privilege, honour and pleasure to provide such a service for you and your beloved pet.

Catch up soon!
