Fillers

Does your skin make you look older than you are? Are you tired of the fine lines and wrinkles? If so, fillers in Brooklyn may be the answer to all your problems. In fact, many patients seek out dermal fillers when they are tired of looking at their aged skin in the mirror. At Kleydman Dermatology, we focus on the patient and we do everything we can to make sure you are happy with the way your skin looks and feels. If you would like to schedule a consultation with our dermatologist, Dr. Kleydman, call our office now. The purpose of dermal fillers in Brooklyn is to help restore the fullness and volume in your face. As you start to age, your facial skin may start to sag and droop, which can make you feel self-conscious. When your skin begins to sag, the formation of fine lines, crow’s feet, and wrinkles become more prevalent. Dermal fillers can help erase the signs of aging and return your facial skin to a soft, supple state that you are happy to show off.

What Can Fillers Fix?

Dermal fillers in Brooklyn are used to correct many problems that you may face as your skin ages. For example, some of the reasons why patients seek out this treatment is to: • Fill in depressed areas around the eyes • Plump up lips that are thin • Add some volume to deep creases on the face • Increase volume in areas such as the temples or lower cheeks • Diminish scars that appear on the face • Help add more volume to the cheeks to ensure a plump look

How Do Fillers in Brooklyn Work?

Fillers are made from a synthetic or naturally-derived material and they are directly injected into your skin to help add fullness to the area. The type of filler you choose will depend on your need for it. In addition, most fillers will last anywhere from six months up to a full two years. If you choose a semi-permanent variation, your results could last up to as much as five years. Dermal fillers are different than Botox, but often confused as the same procedure. With Botox, the muscles around the eyes and forehead have their movement stopped to prevent wrinkles, where dermal fillers work to plump up the skin instead of limiting its motion.

When Should I Have a Filler Injected?

This is a personal question and should be answered based on your personal preference of how your skin looks. Most patients will have a dermal filler injected at the first sign of aging and some patients wait until they are no longer happy with the look of their skin before they seek out treatment. If you are unsure, you should speak with Dr. Kleydman and she can help direct you.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers such as Juvéderm, Belotero, Restylane, and Perlane, are used to fill in and plump up wrinkles and folds on the face. They can also add volume to features that look flat or sunken in, especially on the cheeks, lips, tear troughs/hollows, temples and jawline. Hyaluronic acid fillers are often injected into the lips, nasolabial folds, nasal bumps, upper forehead, brow creases, and chin.

Suspended in a gel formula, hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the body, works from the inside to attract water and plump up the deficient area. The nuances associated with all hyaluronic acid fillers are the same, but each has a different molecular size, or density. This range allows the physician choose the right product for you based on your skin type and concerns.

Temporary injectable dermal fillers like Juvéderm, Restylane and Perlane are used to temporarily correct facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, as well as for lip augmentation and filling under eye depressions, which cause dark circles. Temporary dermal fillers can also be utilized to correct nasal contours with the non-surgical.

Long lasting dermal fillers, like Radiesse, Sculptra and Juvéderm Voluma XC last several months longer than temporary fillers. Radiesse is indicated for use in the cheeks, nasolabial folds and hands to improve contour and increase volume. Sculptra is usually used to restore volume to hollow cheeks, jawline, temples but may also be used for hand rejuvenation and a butt life. Scuptra stimulates the body to increase collagen production, so the results continue to improve over a period of time. Juvéderm Voluma XC is indicated for the mid face, which can last up to two years unlike more temporary fillers which anywhere from 6 to 8 months.

What To Expect

You have taken the plunge and decided that a hyaluronic acid filler is the right choice for you, set your feelings of worry aside and know what to expect. Most hyaluronic acid fillers are now formulated with lidocaine to make the process as comfortable as possible, which eliminates the process for numbing creams. Assessing your tolerance for pain, you can opt-in for a numbing cream, which takes a minimum of 30 minutes to be effective. Ice and other means of comfort will be applied as well. Once the procedure is complete, you may experience temporary bruising, swelling and lumpiness, all of which should resolve within 7-14 days.

Commonly Asked Questions – Injectables
Q&A

  1. Can you have neurotoxins and fillers injected at the same time?
Absolutely, I use a combination of injectables to personalize your treatment, commonly referred to as a “Liquid Lift.” Neurotoxins can relax frown lines, and hyaluronic acids can lift the crease left behind. In fact, studies have shown that the results of hyaluronic acid fillers may last longer when used in tandem with a neurotoxin. Many doctors believe that by reducing muscle contractions, the toxin helps slow the breakdown of the filler due to less movement in the area. The combines procedures often produce a better result than either agent alone.

  2. Tell me more about the “Liquid Lift”
A Liquid Lift Involves using a combination of different injectables and fillers to address a variety of common aging concerns like wrinkles and volume loss in the cheeks, under-eye hollows and more without any surgery or incisions. But, unlike surgery, the results are not long-term. It is an ideal option if you are seeking the first signs of aging and have volume loss with minimal looseness in your skin.

  3. At what age should I start using injectables to best preserve a youthful look?
The answer is different for everyone. Only you know what’s right for you in deciding when to intervene in the natural aging proves of your face. Some of my patients feel that early intervention is advantageous. It enables periodic smoothing of fine lines before they become deep lines and wrinkles. There may be wisdom in this since Botox, Dysport and Xeomin relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles to appear between the eyebrows or around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s-feet. For some, this is in the late 20s to early 30s. As for tissue fillers, the timing also varies for each patient. I find that most patients become interested in offsetting facial volume loss in the midface and lips sometime in their early-to-mid 30s to early 40s.
    .
  4. How often would I require filler treatments?
Treatment effects typically last 6-12 months depending on the area, injection technique and chosen filler, as well as your skin condition, lifestyle and age. Over time, repeat treatments can favorable lengthen the interval between appointments and, in some individuals, the amount of product required to achieve the same results.

  5. Will injectables leave marks on my skin?
In patients prone to PIH, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, even a needle puncture can pose a problem. Since different injectables require different-gauge needles – some are thicker than others – anyone with a history of PIH may be better off sticking to formulas injected with thinner needles, such as hyaluronic acid fillers. Patients with darker skin may also see better results with clear hyaluronic acid fillers, which will not alter skin tone, especially when placed in areas of thinner skin, like under the eyes.
