It is completely fine to use a moisturizer in combination with tretinoin. In fact, using tretinoin without a moisturizer is typically not recommended. Many doctors encourage their patients to moisturize while using it to avoid the risk of dry, peeling skin. Since tretinoin is already a strong topical exfoliant, moisturisers, lotions and other treatments containing exfoliating chemicals, such as salicylic acid, should be avoided. In general, the principles for purchasing tretinoin-friendly moisturizers are simple: avoid alcohol and other substances that increase dryness, go natural, and choose basic, fragrance-free moisturizers wherever feasible.
