Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus (DENV), transmitted to humans exclusively through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is not spread from person to person. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dengue infects an estimated 100–400 million people globally every year, making it the world's fastest spreading mosquito borne disease. India alone contributes a significant share of Asia's total dengue burden.
