Hampta Valley was once just a corridor for horse-herders and shepherds travelling between Kullu and Spiti Valleys. However, it has recently become one of the most popular hiking locations. It connects Manali with Chandratal and has become one of the most popular hikes among visitors to Manali. I recall seeing scarcely any day-trippers in Sethan village (the last settlement on the Manali side from where the journey begins), let alone trekkers attempting a 5- or 6-day route to Hampta Pass when I first visited. Then, in 2018, most of the well-known adventure trip companies began offering Hampta Pass tours. Tourists began to flock to the valley, and it quickly became one of Himachal Pradesh's most popular tourist destinations.
