How many parts does knee have and where does osteoarthritis start in knee?

    Category: Health

Our knee is divided into three major compartments, • The medial compartment (Inside part of the knee), The medial compartment of the knee refers to the inner part of the knee joint. It is the space between the thigh bone (femur) and the shin bone (tibia) where they meet at the knee joint. The medial compartment is responsible for allowing flexion and extension of the knee joint, as well as providing stability to the knee during weight-bearing activities. • The lateral compartment (Outside part of the knee), The lateral compartment of the knee refers to the outer part of the knee joint. It is the space between the thigh bone (femur) and the shin bone (tibia) on the outside of the knee joint. The lateral compartment plays an important role in knee movement, stability, and weight-bearing activities. • Patello femoral compartment (Front of the knee between the knee cap and thigh bone). The patellofemoral compartment is the space between the patella (knee cap) and the femur (thigh bone) at the front of the knee joint. It allows smooth movement of the patella as the knee joint bends and straightens. The patellofemoral joint also plays an important role in weight-bearing activities and is crucial for proper knee function. Normally osteoarthritis starts from the medial compartment and gradually affects other compartments of the knee. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in your knee, it is important to consult with an orthopedic specialist who can evaluate your condition and recommend appropriate treatment options based on your individual needs and circumstances. Dr. Anoop Jhurani, a well-known and respected knee replacement surgeon in India, has built a department at Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur known for its exceptional patient care, surgical outcomes, and academic and research pursuits in the field of knee and hip replacement surgery. Dr. Jhurani is known for using the latest technologies, including robotic surgery, to ensure that his patients receive the best possible care and achieve optimal outcomes.
