In the Bhado month, Kajari Teej is observed on the third day of Krishna Paksha. Mostly observed in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and some areas of Madhya Pradesh, as are Hariyali Teej and Karwa Chauth. The phrase “Kajari,” also spelled “Badi Teej” or “Satudi Teej,” comes from a folktale that describes the pleasurable anguish a woman experiences after a brief separation from her husband. She does a vrat to pray for the safety of her spouse at her mother’s house to commemorate this special event. According to legend, Goddess Parvati wished to wed Lord Shiva. But Lord Shiva imposed a limit. Goddess Parvati was compelled to demonstrate her devotion to and love for Lord Shiva under stringent conditions.
