Man shot at in encounter, held for sexually assaulting minor in Biswanath

Guwahati: In yet another incident of encounter by Assam police, one Mohim Sharma who was arrested on allegations of sexual assault in Biswanath district was shot at by cops after he tried to escape from police custody. Accused Sharma was arrested by Jinjia police on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old minor girl at Kathonibari area under Behali constituency in Biswanath district. According to sources, a group of locals allegedly assaulted the man, painted his face, and forced him to walk around the entire village wearing a garland of footwear. The mother of the victim minor girl claimed that while her daughter was playing in front of the accused person’s residence, he allegedly enticed her inside and assaulted her. The accused was apprehended and a case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
