From the album "The Pinkprint" I can tell that Nicki was in love with Safaree. She sounds like she just had to break away from his BS. I understand he tried to becomne successful but according to her, he held her back. I wouldn't be suprised if he just didn't want to see his woman being on top and him not. Well, now what does he have. He is crushed because she hated him for being that way. Also, he has to deal with her being more popular then he could ever be now. Unfortunately for him, he will grow a fan base but only to wonder more about what he has to say about her. The fans would just want his side of the story about her and wont care about him as an artist at all.
