Role of BIS certification for footwear products

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for footwear for the manufacture, sale and import of 24 types of footwear products manufactured under the Quality Control Order (QCO) for leather, rubber and other polymeric materials from July 1, 2023. BIS has issued three important Quality Control Orders (QCOs). These include Footwear of Leather and Other Materials (2020), Rubber and Polymer Footwear (2022) and Personal Protective Equipment (2020).
