Diamonds are formed at great depths within a layer of the Earth called the mantle. The Story of Uncut Diamonds In most popular belief the engagement ring dates back to Roman times when the poet Plautus symbolized his love, by exchanging a diamond ring with his loved one. Interestingly, in 1074 one of the very first diamond jewellery was discovered, when a Hungarian queen’s crown was adorned with an uncut, unpolished diamond. For over, 2000 years, diamonds remained glorified in their raw, untouched form.
