Vegetable-based inks are made from a colorant (pigment or dye), binder (such as resin), and carrier. The difference between vegetable-based ink and petroleum-based ink is the carrier. A carrier consisting of soy, linseed, or other vegetable oil is used in vegetable inks. Primary application areas of vegetable-based inks are label and packaging, commercial printing, leather and textile printing, capsule and tablet printing, medical device printing, and optical printing.
