Shearling is obtained from sheep, precisely from young lambs. The pelts of the animal are uniformly sheared to get the same depth as well as the feel all over. A large number of people mistakenly think the fabric is shorn wool although it is the pelt of a young lamb. These pelts are tanned or processed with the natural wool still on them. It is important to note that sheepskin and this fabric are not the same. Sheepskin is sourced from fully matured sheep while the other, as already mentioned before, comes from young lambs. Thus sheepskin has a rougher surface and is not as soft and supple in texture as genuine shearling.
