Let’s admit our true loves are our cats and dogs Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. The usual frenzy adds a zing to spring. I’d like to know how many of us got up in the morning and wished our pet a Happy Valentine’s Day before anyone else. Mine is a typical cat relationship. I held her tight like I always do and said my morning gratefulness prayer and wished her a Happy Valentine’s Day. She knows the ritual well. The Valentine’s day message increasing the duration of the hug did not go well however. She dug her teeth deep into my palm in punishment. I held on tighter and kept telling her how much I love her. She pushed against me and got off my lap to shake off the hug in utter disgust as always. Then came and rubbed against my leg and lay belly up doing a big stretch. I got a kiss post that. She told me in her own way that she loves me in return. Our love languages are completely different but there’s enough understanding for both of us to talk in two tongues and still get the feelings across. And we tell each other that we love each other on a daily basis. Strong stares of disapproval, tail helicoptering in absolute anger and full on attacks with claws and teeth apart, we finally go to sleep on adjacent pillows. Of course then post midnight the manic gets up and makes me miserable with the howling and unreasonable demands. At least there is consistency of behaviour in our relationship. Here’s wishing all pet parents a very Happy Valentine’s Day. May your love grow and last you a lifetime.
